At today’s La Salle County Emergency Commissioners Court meeting, Fire Chief Daniel Mendez reported their first COVID related death.
“A resident here in LaSalle County did pass away this weekend from COVID. He did have underlying conditions, but it’s still the effects of COVID,” Mendez said.
Mendez also recounted a call with State. “Because of the mass positive cases in our region, In the past week, they are so far behind on the contact tracing. Saturday, one of our active cases, they barely notified us ‘you have an active case, but they’re also recovered as of Monday.’ That’s the wait time, about 14 days now.”
Mendez continued, “it’s very hard for us as the numbers increase on the state website, the citizens look at ten, eleven cases… we’ve never been notified. Because they won’t notify us until their investigation is complete.”
